Prairie Fire is a dramatic tone poem for string orchestra that depicts the awe-inspiring, unpredictable, and devastating trajectory of a wildfire sweeping across the open plains. Dedicated to the North Junior High 8th Grade Orchestra Class of 2031, the work opens with a slow, ominous introduction evoking a vast landscape under a heavy, darkening sky. From this quiet tension, a foreboding pulse emerges in the low strings to mimic the first distant sparks and flames before shifting into a frantic, uneasy rhythm to capture the panic of an untamed blaze.
